As we’re nearing the end of the season, I thought it probably time to give everyone an update on the league.  It’s been a tough season for all of our teams and there have been a lot of injuries which have hampered the team captains.  However, it’s not all doom and gloom!

Let’s start with the ladies.  Our first pair narrowly missed out on the title, finishing only 3 points behind the winners.  Our second pair narrowly missed being relegated in a very close table (it went down to points average).  It literally went down to the last match of the season and then it was referred to the league committee to settle the outcome due to events on the night.

Our third pair have not faired as well and are sitting on the bottom of Division 2.  With the last match played, it is going to stay that way and will see us being relegated to Division 3.

Now, on to the mixed.  Our first team have not had the best season but have done enough to remain in Division 1 with a match to spare.  Our second pair were again in a close league (which got closer once 7 Kings dropped out)  which went down to the wire.  Struggling to field a team in the crunch fixture against Wychelm, we ended up losing the match and in turn meaning Wychelm won the league.  One more match left to play for pride.  Win and finish second.  Lose and finish bottom.

Time for the men’s update.  In their first season in Division 2, it was nearly a dream season for the lads with the title coming very near to their grasp.  We’ll never know what could have happened had Hunters not benefited from two matches being conceded in their favour meaning they now cannot be caught.  One match left to play against Redbridge and the result could see us finish only a single point behind Hunters.

In their first season in the league, our men’s second team faced a tough Division 4 with a new team from Barking and a strong team from Frenford entering the league at the same time.  Again with injuries causing issues for the captain, it proved to be a mixed bag for the lads with some big wins and some big losses.  The season finished with 3 wins and 5 losses to finish 4th, only 2 points behind 3rd placed Wychelm.

So, with only 3 fixtures left to play this season (Men’s 1, Mixed 1 and Mixed 2) there is still pride to play for but unfortunately no titles to win.  Let’s hope we don’t get any more injuries in the remaining games so we can get into the close season.

I certainly don’t envy the jobs the captains have had this season!
