Tonight our Men’s 1 team took on one of the strongest teams in the division, Barking 2, at our home venue of Bower Park. With Tom off celebrating his birthday, it was another switch around for the pairings so the lineup was:-
Alan / Kenny
Gary W / Kevin
Andy W / Jonas
The match as a whole was a great spectacle to watch and it was great to see club members walking over between games to watch.
The lads did really well and sadly it’s not reflected in the result. This could easily have been 9-0 to us with some excellent rallies all through the match. Unfortunately for us, Barking 2 managed to come out on top in most of them.
Andy and Jonas took two of their matches to a decider and narrowly missed out in their third match. Alan and Kenny also took one of their matches to a decider but couldn’t finish it off.
The matches were so close that our lads had both courts all night (they normally give one court back) and still only finished the final match at 9:45pm. That showed how close things were!
Next up is an away match to Harold Hill next Friday. If results go our way, a win at that fixture will secure our place in division 1 next season.
Well done tonight lads – not the result we wanted but you put in a phenomenal performance.
