Last night it was time for the Men’s 1 team to get back into action in their Division 2 fixture against Ramgarhia 3.  It was always going to be a tough game as Ramgarhia have a lot of good players who are reserves but our boys didn’t let us down.

First up was our first pair of Kenny & Alan against their first pair.  First game went our way 21-11 but the second was a bit closer ending 21-19 to put the first point up on the board.

On the next court it was Tom and Andy as our second pair against their second pair.  This was a more straightforward affair to win.  Our pair were just too strong and won comfortably 21-13, 21-15 to put the second point on the board.

Next on court were Gary & Kevin as our third pair against their third pair.  After a nervous start losing the first game 15-21, they stormed on to win the second 21-16.  They then stepped up a gear and nailed the third game 21-9 to take the win and put the third point on the board.

On the next court it was Tom and Andy again against Ramgarhia’s first pair.  Again, our second pair were on fire and took the win in 2 games, 21-15, 21-17 to make it 4-0 and secured us a single league point.

It was Gary and Kevin again on court playing their second pair.  It was another close first game finishing 21-20.  However, they settled down and got into a good rhythm and took the second game 21-14 to make the score on the night 5-0 and secure the win and 2 league points.

After a nice rest, it was Alan and Kenny’s turn to see if they could win their second game against the opposition’s third pair.  A win here would give us 3 league points which were needed in the close division.  The boys didn’t disappoint and won in straight games 21-15, 21-19.

Onto game number 7 of the night and it was Gary & Kevin’s last game against Ramgarhia’s first pair.  Just like their first match, they wanted to make things hard for themselves and lost the first game 19-21.  However, again just like their first match, they stepped up a gear and won the next game 21-11 to tie it up and take it to a decider.  With a clean sweep on the horizon, they played out of their socks and won comfortably 21-16 to take the match and make it 8-0 on the night.

So it was down to Andy and Tom to clinch the whitewash 9-0 win by beating the opposition’s third pair.  The first game was a close finish 21-20 but the second was an easier 21-13 which made the fixture a great 9-0 win to us.

Despite not moving us up in the league, the result does mean we keep in contact with the top two teams of Hunters and Ramgarhia 2 with a game in hand.

It looks like it’s going to be a close run affair in the Men’s Division 2 this season with three strong contenders in the running for the title.

Well done lads, keep it up!
