Our Men’s 2 team hosted Frenford 2 in a crucial match in Men’s Division 4.  If we are to win the league and gain promotion, it was a must win match against our closest competitor.  However, with injuries and illnesses spreading through the club, it was another makeshift team for the fixture and it didn’t go quite to plan.

Our line-up for the night was:-

Kirk and Darran
Henry and Andy P
Jonas and Gary Y

The night started off very evenly matched with each club taking games and making it 2-2 after 4 matches.  However, Frenford won the next 2 matches making it 2-4 on the night and putting the pressure on.

Jonas and Gary fought back in a 3 game thriller to make it 3-4 on the night and bring some hope of salvaging a bonus league point.  The 8th game of the night pitted Kirk and Darran against Frenford’s second pair who were unbeaten on the night.  Despite a very close first game (19-21) and an even closer second game (20-21), Frenford won the 8th match of the night to make it 3-5 and secure the win.  With the bonus point still up for grabs, Henry and Andy took to the court against Frenford’s 3rd pair.  This was another close match with Frenford winning it 18-21, 18-21 to take the final game, make it 3-6 on the night and secure the bonus point.

Down side is that we’ve lost our lead in the division.  However, we’re still on top due to a superior Games Won record and Game Difference.

That’s all of our home fixtures played for the season.  The next fixture is away to Emerson Eagles 3 on the 3rd February.  We then have a busy March with away matches on the 2nd March (away to Emerson Eagles 4), 14th March (away to Wychelm) then the final match away to Frenford 2 on the 24th March.

Unlucky lads but we’re still top of the league and we’re still in with a great chance of promotion!
