Last night’s fixture was in Mixed Division 1 between our Mixed 1 team and Hunters.  Unfortunately, the match didn’t go quite to plan but, by all reports, Paula’s cakes were awesome.  She’s now going to retire from playing and set up a tea room instead.

The line up for the night was:-
Paula and Kevin
Penny and Tom
Ruth and Andy

The night started with Paula and Kevin taking on Hunters’ first pair.  Unfortunately it wasn’t the start we wanted with our pair losing 11-21, 15-21.

On the adjacent court, Penny and Tom were taking on Hunters’ second pair.  The first game was a bust, losing 9-21 but Penny and Tom fought back in the second, narrowly missing out 20-21.

Third up on court were Ruth and Andy against Hunters’ third pair (featuring our very own Lisa).  This was a mirror the previous game but in our favour with Ruth and Andy winning 21-9 in the first and holding out in the second, narrowly winning 21-20.

On the other court, Penny and Tom were straight back on against Hunters’ first pair.  With Penny still recovering from her injury last time out, it was a tentative match but we just couldn’t match Hunters, losing 7-21.  However, not to take it lying down, Penny and Tom struck out and took a fantastic second game 21-20 to take it to a decider.  However, it wasn’t to be with our pair losing out 11-21.

It was time for Ruth and Andy to get back on court again against the second pair from Hunters.    Again, with a slow start losing the first game 14-21 it was time to fight back in the second.  It was another close game and unfortunately Hunters snatched it by a point winning 21-20 to secure their league point and make it 4-1 on the night.

After a nice break (and probably too many cakes!), it was Paula and Kev’s turn to take on Hunters’ third pair.  Another close game ensued but this time our pair were too strong winning 21-19.  The second game was a bit more straightforward, winning 21-13 to make it 4-2 on the night and all to play for.

Playing in the other match on the next court were Ruth and Andy against Hunters’ first pair.  This match didn’t go to plan at all with our pair losing 5-21, 7-21.  With the score now 5-2, Hunters had secured the 2 league points.

With a bonus league point still to play for, Paula and Kevin took to the court in their final match against Hunters’ second pair.  Unfortunately it was not to be.  We lost 13-21, 16-21 meaning Hunters took the bonus league point and it was now 6-2 on the night.

Final match of the night was between Penny and Tom and Hunters’ third pair.  It wasn’t our night though with Hunters running out the winners 14-21, 14-21 to make it 7-2 on the night taking Hunters to the top of the table.

Roll on our next game against Emerson Eagles in 2 weeks as we may be in with a chance of winning.  However, Kev has more exciting plans in China than to play with Paula so a substitution will be required!

Well done team on the great matches.  Another plus was that there were no injuries so things are on the up!

Challenge is now on to win the bowling against Hunters. To be confirmed……
