So, last night was our first fixture of the season, at home, in the new Mixed Combination Division 1 league. Our opponents were Emerson Eagles 1. Our lineup was Paula, Jo, Marc and Jonas.
Given the new format of this league, it was always going to be a tentative first match as the pairs swap around:-
Paula / Jo vs Emerson Ladies
Marc / Jonas vs Emerson Men
Paula / Marc vs Emerson Mixed
Jo / Jonas vs Emerson Mixed
Paula / Jonas vs Emerson Mixed
Jo / Marc vs Emerson Mixed
We know that Emerson Eagles are a strong team as they have a lot of youngsters playing there and receiving coaching so we expected a very hard match and it didn’t disappoint. There were some close games (17s, 16s, and 15s) with one of the matches going to a decider but in the end Emerson were just too strong and they took a clean sweep ending the match 0-6 in their favour.
As the scoring is slightly different for this one, it is 2 league points for a win and 1 each for a draw. There is no bonus point on offer.
So – we’re one game in to the new season and still finding our feet. Next week is the Mixed 6 match at home to Redbridge. Let’s get our season back on track with a win there!
