Tonight’s fixture for the Men’s 2 team was a home fixture against Emerson Eagles 4.  With injuries playing a big part in our team at the moment, it was another new line-up for the team.  The pairs were:-

Gary Y and Jonas
Kirk and Paul G
Andy P and Oli

With a quiet start to club night, the match could afford to have 3 courts to get things going quickly.  Therefore, first up on court one were Gary and Jonas against the first pair from Emerson.  The lads got off to a great start, running away 21-11 in the first game.  The second game was a lot closer with Emerson warming up but our guys kept their cool and won 21-17 to take the first point of the night.

On the adjacent court Kirk and Paul were taking on Emerson’s second pair.  The first game for this was a close one with our pair taking it 21-18.  They seemed to find their groove in the second game and took it comfortably 21-13.

On the third court Andy P and Oli were taking on the third pair from Emerson.  This was either a complete mismatch or Emerson took a long time to get into things.  Andy and Oli hardly broke a sweat running out 21-4, 21-3 winners.

Next up it was Kirk and Paul against Emerson’s first pair.  Emerson really pushed our pair hard in the first game but we nicked it 21-19.  The second game didn’t go our way and we lost it 17-21 to set up a decider.  Kirk and Paul stepped it up for this one and ran away with it 21-13 to make it 4-0 on the night and secure a league point.

On the next court over it was Andy and Oli against Emerson’s second pair.  This was a closer affair than their first match but it was still a comfortable win for the lads, running out 21-11, 21-6 to make it 5-0 on the night and secure the win and the 2 league points.

Gary and Jonas were up against Emerson’s third pair to see if they could close out the bonus league point.  Gary and Jonas seemed to come out all guns blazing for this one and ran away with it 21-2, 21-5 to make it 6-0 on the night and secure all 3 league points.

It was now time for Andy and Oli’s last game of the night against Emerson’s first pair.  Again, our lads were just too strong for Emerson and they took no prisoners at all.  The final result was 21-6, 21-7 to make it 7-0 on the night.

Gary and Jonas were up for their last match of the night taking on Emerson’s second pair.  This was not as close as expected but was a decent game all the same.  The lads took the match 21-11, 21-10 to keep the clean sheet and make it 8-0 on the night.

Last up on court were Kirk and Paul against Emerson’s third pair.  The clean sweep was on so there was a lot of pressure on our lads.  The lads from Emerson seemed to be up for this game too having been swept aside in their previous two matches.  They pushed on the first game but came up short as Kirk and Paul won it 21-10.  However, the final game of the night was a lot closer and our guys only just nicked it 21-17 to take the final match and the clean sweep 9-0.

The result keeps our lads top of the table on maximum points.  A great result for the boys and let’s see if we can keep it going and go unbeaten for the season.  Next match is not until January and is at home against Frenford who are also unbeaten this season.  Should be a good one!
