Last night was the penultimate fixture for the Ladies A and Ladies B pairs in Division 1.  It was at our home venue of the YMCA so we had some sort of home advantage.

The line up for the night was:-
Ladies A pair – Paula and Jane Fonda (A.K.A – Jess)
Ladies B pair – Charlotte and Jo

Firstly, thanks to Jo for standing in at the last minute to play with Charlotte.

With our second pair lying bottom of the table and in danger of relegation, it needed a strong start from the ladies to climb up the table.  The first match on saw Charlotte and Jo take on the pair from Hunters.  They made a great start to the match taking the first game 21-15 but then faltered to a 18-21 loss to take it to the decider.  They stepped up their game and nailed the deciding game 21-14 to secure their first league point.

Next up on court it was the time for our first pair to take on Hunters.  Like a mirror of the previous game, Paula and Jess also won the first game and lost the second game to take it to a decider.  And just like Charlotte and Jo, they nailed the decider to take the game and the league point.

It was now time for Charlotte and Jo to take on the unbeaten leaders of the division, Harold Hill.  With a few errors in the first game, they lost 21-11 but picked it up for the second game, narrowly losing 21-17.

Meanwhile, on the other court, Jess and Paula were playing the girls from Emerson Eagles in a very close run first game.  With the scores poised at 20-20, it was our ladies who clinched the deciding point to win 21-10.  In the second game, there was more breathing room and our ladies won it comfortably 21-15 to take their second point of the night.

Now it was time for the battle of the club where Jess and Paula squared up against Charlotte and Jo.  There were some great rallies during this match but Jess and Paula were too strong for Charlotte and Jo and took the first game 21-15.  However, as with all rivalries, Charlotte and Jo weren’t just going give up without a fight.  The second game was even closer and more entertaining with some great long rallies.  With scores at 20-20 it was all to play for.  However, the on form pair of Jess and Paula snatched the win to take their third point of the night.

The final game of the night was between the unbeaten team of Harold Hill against our in form pair of Jess and Paula.  It promised to be a good match and it was.  With Jess sporting her Jane Fonda headband, she was on a roll and eager to make it four out of four for the night.  The first game looked like going the same way as previous fixtures with Harold Hill winning it 21-15.  However, Jess and Paula stepped it up a gear and snatched the second game 21-19 to set up a decider.  With the clock ticking towards 10pm, it was time to dig deep into the energy reserves to get the win.  With some great rallies and some excellent teamwork, Jess and Paula turned things around and won the decider comfortably 21-15 to take their fourth league point of the night and the put an end to Harold Hill’s remarkable unbeaten streak.

Well done to both pairs!
