Last night was the second match of the men’s 2 team and this time the opponents were Wychelm.  The line-up for the night was:-

Gary Y / Andy P
Kirk / Darran
Oliver / Henry

It was a weakened team submitted by Wychelm as they could only get 2 pairs to the fixtures.  This meant we had an immediate head start of 3-0 so only needed to win one game to secure a league point.

First up on court were Gary and Andy against Wychelm’s first pair.  With Andy P just returning from injury, it was going to be an interesting one to start off with.  Andy and Gary worked well together and taking the first game 21-13 then cruised to the second game 21-10 to make it 4-0 on the night and secure a single league point.

Meanwhile on the neighbouring court, Kirk and Darran were continuing to make it hard for themselves, taking the first game 21-18 but then losing the second 10-21 to take it to a decider (their third consecutive decider!).  This was another close one but our lads nicked it 21-19 to take the match, and secure the league win and 2 league points.

Kirk and Darran were straight back on against the first pair from Wychelm.  They didn’t seem to get started on this one and quickly dropped back, eventually losing 10-21.  After a brief drinks stop, they changed ends and stepped up their game.  Unfortunately it wasn’t enough and they lost out 18-21 to make it 5-1 on the night.

On the adjacent court, it was time for Oliver and Henry to take on Wychelm’s second pair.  This turned out to be a moderately comfortable win, taking the first game 21-10  then easing to the second game 21-13.  This secured the league bonus point and made it 6-1 on the night.

Oliver and Henry were straight back on against Wychelm’s first pair.  The first game was a close run affair with our lads pulling away at the end and taking it 21-16.  The next game was a lot more straightforward with Oliver and Henry forming a good partnership and romped to a 21-9 finish to make it 7-1 on the night.

The last match of the night saw Gary and Andy take on Wychelm’s second pair.  Again, the lads worked well together and stormed to a 21-10, 21-10 win to take the match and make it 8-1 on the night.

Well done to the lads on another great result last night.  They’re now top of the table with maximum points and a good game difference.  Great start to the season!  Next match for the Men’s 2 team is next month at home to Emerson Eagles 4.

And a last note of thanks to Paula for providing home baked cakes on the night.  I certainly enjoyed one 🙂
