Tonight saw our Mixed 2 team playing away to United Shuttlers. After everyone battled through traffic we made our way to the 2nd floor of the Isaac Newton Academy to play with our makeshift team.
With Gary out injured, Henry stepped in to play with Lesley in our first pairing. With Penny having other commitments, I had the pleasure of Linda’s company in the third pairing.
Things got off to a ropey start when the wrong pairs started playing which led to confusion later on in the night working out which games were left to play!
Their first pairing won all of their games against us convincingly. They beat Lesley and Henry 21-10, 21-14 with David and Lisa doing slightly worse with a 21-10, 21-12 loss. By the time they came to Linda and myself, they slipped a bit to 21-13, 21-12.
Their second pairing only dropped one game. They beat Lesley and Henry 21-11, 21-11. They were pushed by Lisa and David to three games finally winning 21-11, 16-21, 21-14. They then went on to beat Linda and I 21-13, 21-12.
We clawed back 2 matches against their third pairing. Lesley and Henry lost 21-10, 21-18. Lisa and David did better winning 12-21, 14-21. Linda and I then took them to 3 games and came out on top 21-16, 16-21, 15-21.
All said and done, we did well and pushed them but they were just too strong for us.
