Along with the men’s 2 match this week, our ladies third pair were also in action on Wednesday away at Redbridge.  We have a new line-up for the ladies this season and turning out for our team this week it was a decidedly family affair.  Julie and Penny were hoping to get the season off with a bang.

The first match they played saw them take on Emerson Eagles D.  With the first game being a tentative affair, Emerson took it 21-15.  However, our girls took it up a notch in the second game and walked away with it 21-13 to set up the decider.  This one went right down to the wire and despite our girls’ best efforts, unfortunately Emerson snatched it 21-20.

Next up it was a match against Emerson Eagles C.  This one was going to be a tough one as the Emerson Eagles C girls are the in form pair at the moment.  And it proved to be the case.  Unfortunately they were too strong for Julie and Penny and ran away with it 21-10, 21-11.

The final match of the night was against the hosts, Redbridge.  Hoping to salvage something from the fixture, they set off strong but Redbridge were just too strong, taking the first game 21-6.  However, not to be outdone, our ladies came back strong in the second game to take it 21-12 and set up a decider.  However, they just couldn’t sustain it in their second decider of the night and slipped to defeat 12-21,

So it was a disappointing night for the ladies in their first match of the season.  They now have a nice break until the middle of December for the next fixture, away at Emerson Eagles.  So, there’s plenty of time and another 3 fixtures to come to make up the ground!
