Last night it was our mixed team’s second outing of the season and this time it was away to Ramgarhia.  It was always going to be a tough one against last season’s champions and it didn’t help that we only had 2 pairs available for the fixture.

However, our guys aren’t ones for quitting so they made the trip to East Ham for the fixture.  The lineup for the night was:-

Penny and Tom
Jo and Kevin

First up on court were Penny and Tom to take on the first pair from Ramgarhia.  Things were close to start with but then Ramgarhia pulled away winning the first game 21-16.  The second game started much the same with points being exchanged but their pair were just too strong and made it 21-16 again to take the first point of the night.

On the adjacent court, Jo and Kev were taking on the second pair from Ramgarhia.  As Jo and Kev haven’t played often together (Kev’s usual partner Paula was away on holiday) it was always going to be a settling in game for them.  The first game didn’t go very well with Ramgarhia taking it 21-14.  However, the second game was a lot closer with Jo and Kev working well together and they were only slightly beaten 21-18.

So, with no third pair from our club, it was Penny and Tom straight on against Ramgarhia’s second pair.  The first game was a bit of a run out for us, losing 21-14.  However, Penny and Tom fought back in the second game and narrowly missed out, ending 21-17 to Ramgarhia.

With the 3 games conceded from our missing third pair and the first 3 games lost, the fixture was all but over for the league points, with Ramgarhia having secured the two league points and the bonus league point.

It was pride to play for now.

Up stepped Jo and Kev for their final match against the third pair from Ramgarhia.  This started off really well for us with Jo and Kev working well together to win the first game 16-21.  However, they just couldn’t keep the momentum going and dropped the second game 21-4 and then the decider 21-11 to round off their night.

Last up were Penny and Tom to take on Ramgarhia’s third pair.  Like Jo and Kev, they found the third pair a very strong pair and dropped the first game 21-9.  They fought back in the second game but couldn’t quite get going properly and dropped to a 21-11 defeat to round off a miserable night in East Ham.

Big thanks to Jo for stepping in as a reserve for the match, especially on a Friday night and having to travel to East Ham.  It’s just a shame it wasn’t a better night.

We’ve got to turn things around in time for Wednesday as our mixed team have a home fixture against Redbridge.  Let’s hope we have a full strength team for the fixture and let’s get those three points back!
